There’s more AI news in a week than any CEO can read in a year. This is our running brief on the handful of shifts that actually matter for mid-market companies and what to do about them. New editions land regularly.

1. Agents are moving from demos to daily work

AI “agents” that can take multi-step actions, not just answer questions, are starting to handle real operational tasks: drafting, routing, reconciling, following up. The opportunity for mid-market teams is the repetitive back-office work that quietly eats hours every week.

What to do: pick one repetitive, rules-based process and pilot an agent on it. Measure the hours before and after.

2. “We have a ChatGPT subscription” is no longer a strategy

Most companies have access to AI. Very few have turned it into operational results. The gap is no longer tools; it’s leadership and implementation.

What to do: assign clear ownership of AI in your business. If a full-time hire isn’t justified, that’s exactly what a fractional Chief AI Officer is for.

3. ROI measurement is becoming the dividing line

The companies winning with AI aren’t the ones using the most tools. They’re the ones who can point to hours and dollars saved. Boards are starting to ask for it.

What to do: track AI’s impact the way you’d track any investment: before-and-after, in dollars, on a dashboard.
